Naming and Equipping a Pet

I believe Firebirds are 'Major' pets, and the others in the item database have names, so I assume I need to name mine to claim it? Firebirds still aren't included in the pet information, but I had amazon dig up an old post on them for me. 
Pet ID: Don't know yet! From the gorgeous firebird pair I would take the male, on top with green feathers?
