New Samanayr species are being discovered all the time, arriving from distant lands and emerging from hidden realms. And now, to celebrate reaching the 300th IDed Samanayr, it's your turn to determine the next Samanayr species!

This is a design contest, with a focus on the concept of the species itself rather than the written or visual description. Entries will be judged on their originality, depth, and how well the species would fit into the already-exisiting Samanayr world and community. I will be helped in the judging by a couple of impartial judges

Prizes

First place
- Your species will be made into an official Samanayr species, and you'll also receive credit for your creation on the Species page. You'll also receive a custom pair, mare and stallion, of the first of your species, and one of them will be the 300th Sam!
- Two modiems of your choice.

Second place
- A custom of your species! Although it will just be considered a Samanayr, it will still have all of the features and traits that your species entry included.
- A modiem of your choice.

Third place
- A custom Samanayr, Lamanayr, or Northern with two special traits, maximum rarity rare.
- A random modiem.

All entries
Everyone who enters will receive a random modiem!

Information

Some important information to keep in mind when designing your species!

- Species can be differentiated from each other by a collection of required traits, paticular coloration or markings, magic, and/or social behaviors. You don't necessarily just have to pile on traits to create a new specices!
- You can include traits that don't already exist. If your species is made official, the traits will become official traits as well.
- If you have any questions about the Samanayr world, please ask! If I receive any entries where I feel the species wouldn't fit into the world, I may ask the entrant to revise it. For example, a species of laser gun-toting space-faring Samanayrs wouldn't exactly fit.
- Species that fundementally alter Samanayr society or customs, such as a species where stallions can have 50 mares in their Songs, may not be permitted. If I feel that your species is too radical, you may be asked to alter it (this isn't likely to happen, but I feel I should include it anyway XD).
- As an official Samanayr species, the species can be used by me as with any of the other species, eg individuals of the species can be given away, sold as customs, etc.

And some information about entering:

- There is a limit of one entry per person. Since this contest is running on PI and the Samanayr forums, please just submit your entry through one of those forums.
- You're welcome to include any illustrations that you feel would help explain your concept.
- If your entry is too similar to another user's entry, you may be asked to revise it. For example, if two people happened to submit a species of bright orange Samanayrs with headwings who really liked to eat oranges, the second person to submit their species would be asked to come up with another idea.

Confused? Here's what the different fields mean:

Species name - The name you've come up with for your species.
Origin - Where did your species come from? Have they been hiding out for years and years, were they created suddenly because of a magical accident, are they the result of a hybrid breeding?
Special traits - The different traits and/or features that your species has.
Special markings/colors - Any markings or colors that are required for your species.
Abilities - Any magical or special abilities. If you're not sure if the powers you want to give your species are allowed, please ask!
How to breed - This is mostly for if your specices is a hybrid of two already-existing species. Most species need to be bred with another of their species to have a foal of the same species.
Breeding restrictions - Only required if your species will not breed with another species.
Anything else - Well.. anything else XD

...this is an excellent idea for a contest. And I've totally had a thought floating around in the back of my head for a little while now as to a new species. Hmm. Time to develop it a bit more fully. :3

A note for the species contest, I've received several entries for underground/digging Samanayrs, so if you were thinking of going the underground route it would probably be a good idea to go with a different idea If you want to make sure your idea is still free before fleshing out your concept, please send me a PM! I feel really badly about having to turn away thorough entries because someone else submitted it first.

I just thought of a question! If we wanted to edit our entry to clarify something, are we allowed to do that?

There's been some pretty awesome entries so far, and probably even more that weren't posted! I can't wait to see the winners, no rush though Sushi!
